Flight-Lt Erie Melville Copley,' RAAF, was presented with the Distinguished Flying Medal by the Lieutenant-Governor (Sir James Mitchell) at Government House.The citation to his award reads: "Through his operational-career Flight-Lt Copley has displayed a highly commendable devotion to duty. In August, 1942, during an attack on Kassell he acted as flre controller while being attacked by an enemy aircraft. His efficient orders enabled the rear-gunner to hit the enemy aircraft and his captain to take effective evasive action. His high degree of technical skill and devotion to duty have been responsible in a large measure for the success achieved by the crew."
